Side pains

Hello Dr. Glenn,

Here is a quick description of myself. I am a 50 yr old woman and I have been blessed with great health. I am a mother of three teenage daughters. I buy 100% organic food 95% of the time and try and eat as balanced as possible I am 5'7 and weight around 125.

My question to you is I have been experiencing pain on my left side of my stomach for the last 8 or so years that comes and goes sometimes Monthly for days on end. I have sometimes gone 3 or 4 months without pain at all.

I have had a check up with my Reg. Dr. NO HELP! and also had a MRI 5 yrs ago and I was told that I was backed up. I have not had a colonoscopy yet and I am afraid to have that done. What would you suggest?

Hi Nikki,

I'm sorry to that you are having this pain...

I'd need to have more information to be able to diagnose you, but I can make this suggestion.

From a conventional medicine perspective, I'd suggest that you get an ultra-sound/sonogram done of the painful area to start. This kind of test is relatively inexpensive, non-invasive, does not involve radiation and is considered safe by most experts...it does a very good job of imaging soft tissue...this is what most women have done to view the baby in the womb.

Assuming it shows no identifiable problems, or that you are "backed up" make an appointment with a L'AP (Licensed Acupuncture Physician) in your area. We are also called Oriental Medicine Doctors or OMD, some are called DOM...Doctor of Oriental Medicine.

We truly are masterful with problems Western Medicine cannot diagnosis properly or treat safely or effectively. We are especially good at digestive issues and can help you with almost any problems including a constipation issue...most over the counter BM promoting products are too harsh and do not correct the cause of the constipation. I don't want to assume that it is occasional constipation without more information.

I hope this gives you a starting point in getting help with whatever this problem is...you want to rule out anything bad...and I agree with you about not resorting to a dangerous and expensive and perhaps even unnecessary colonoscopy at this point.
