You Can Lower Your High Blood Pressure Naturally And Safely!

What, Scientifically Is High Blood Pressure or Hypertension?

According To The Experts Posting At Wikipedia...Here Is What It Is.

"Hypertension (HTN) or high blood pressure (HBP) is a cardiac chronic medical condition in which the systemic arterial blood pressure is elevated. It is the opposite of hypotension. Hypertension is classified as either primary (essential) or secondary.

About 90–95% of cases are termed "primary hypertension", which refers to high blood pressure for which no medical cause can be found.[1] The remaining 5–10% of cases (Secondary hypertension) are caused by other conditions that affect the kidneys, arteries, heart, or endocrine system.[2]

Persistent hypertension is one of the risk factors for stroke, myocardial infarction, heart failure and arterial aneurysm, and is a leading cause of chronic kidney failure.[3]

Moderate elevation of arterial blood pressure leads to shortened life expectancy. Dietary and lifestyle changes can improve blood pressure control and decrease the risk of associated health complications, although drug treatment may prove necessary in patients for whom lifestyle changes prove ineffective or insufficient.[4]

Blood pressure is usually classified based on the systolic and diastolic blood pressures.

Systolic blood pressure is the blood pressure in vessels during a heart beat.

Diastolic blood pressure is the pressure between heartbeats. A systolic or the diastolic blood pressure measurement higher than the accepted normal values for the age of the individual is classified as pre-hypertension or hypertension.

If You Have Very High and Persistent High Blood Pressure You Have To Control It, Even If It Means Taking Pharmaceutical Drugs To Do So!

There are times when someone is under my care and things are not working fast enough or when they come to me for treatment and their blood pressure is dangerously high and I tell them to see their MD and get it controlled now. I have praised them and breathed a sigh of relief on their behalf if and when it works.

Why? Because to heal the root cause and turn things around with acupuncture and herbal medicine likely will take a few to several weeks depending upon the severity of the problem.

So, if a patient comes to me in a HBP crisis, once that is resolved and their blood pressure is normalized, if they ask me for to treat them, I help them lower their blood pressure with acupuncture, herbal medication, diet, exercise and lifestyle changes.

Another point, just because you need to take pharmaceutical medication now does not mean that you will have to take those medications for ever...

There is so much you can do to lower your blood pressure naturally and even improve your overall health with diet, exercise, meditation including meditations to release your anger, deep breathing exercises and more.

Also, as already mentioned there is acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicines that can treat the root cause or causes of your HBP and help you lower your blood pressure naturally.

Here is how and why this process works...

The Key is that too low blood pressure is just as dangerous as blood pressure that is too high.

So, as you make the necessary lifestyle changes and alternative treatment choices and your blood pressure comes down to normal levels, your MD will have to gradually reduce and eventually take you off of blood pressure medication altogether.

Here Is Why And How I Personally Became Interested In High Blood Pressure and Hypertension Medications.

My father had high blood pressure and later developed blockages of several of the main arteries of the heart for which he submitted to by-pass surgery...

A couple of times!...

...that is until the medications and surgeries lead to complications he died from.

But let's start at the beginning...

Well, it all began in the Mid-West where he was taught to eat what I call the Standard American Diet or SAD for short.

You might want to click on this link to find out what the Standard American Diet is if you don't know. This will open a new page.

When my father's hypertension was discovered, he was put on HBP medication and the anti-anxiety medications Valium and then Xanax...it was downhill from there...

Not suddenly, but gradually over time...beginning with the side effects of his HBP and anti-anxiety meds...

Xanax, also known as Alprazolam, is a Benzodiazepine medication, a class of drugs that also includes the drugs Atavan, Klonopin also known as Clonaxepam, and the more widely known Valium.

Xanax is the most commonly misused benzodiazepine in the United States.

These drugs are not directly on the topic of HBP, but they are so widely prescribed when someone has HPB that you need to know more about them. Here is why.

They are addicting, the side effects can be horrible and they can kill you if you are not extremely careful...don't even think about quitting suddenly.

It is likely that if you have HBP and are taking pharmaceutical drugs for control of your high blood pressure that you are also on one of these drugs...

Also if you are seeking treatment of recently diagnosed hypertension, you will very likely be prescribed one of these drugs and they are highly, highly addictive and have often very debilitating side effects.

If you would like to learn more about the effects of these drugs now, please click here, or you may come back here later to learn more.

Returning to my reasons for having such a great interest in HBP, and pharmaceutical medication to control HBP and anxiety...my father was turned into a crazy person...

Rather than any of his problems getting better, they were all made worse by pharmaceutical drugs and surgery. He got more angry and upset, more irrational, more abusive, more out of it, less functional and less loving long before he had his first heart attack...in 1982. Keep in mind he had been on HPB medication and Xanax for years before.

At this time in 1983, after his heart attack, he was on 15 prescription drugs some which were prescribed to control the symptoms (in truth side-effects) of the medications already prescribed him that he was taking.

Oh, yes to make matters even worse, and you may or may not know this, there are drugs that are antagonistic to each other...in other words they are very dangerous and even life threatening when they are prescribes together, so it is malpractice to prescribe them together.

I was deeply concerned about what was happening to my father and I had read an article on antagonistic drugs,so I researched his medications to see if any of them were antagonistic and thus contraindicated for prescription at the same time.

Do you know what I found?

Five of the fifteen pharmaceutical drugs that had been prescribed to him which he was taking...were antagonistic and deadly dangerous to take with some of his other medications.

An aside, my dad loved his medications and believed he was getting the best medical care from the best health care system in the world. He couldn't grasp that there was a problem...His Doctor would never do anything that would harm him.

He at first didn't believe me that some drugs he was taking were antagonistic and thus not to be prescribed at the same time...until I showed him the research.

I did not know then what I know now, I did not go to school to become a Doctor of Oriental Medicine until 1999 where I studied Oriental herbs and pharmaceutical drugs. My instincts, awareness and understanding were just beginning to develop...after do the research on his drugs.

When my dad was finally on board and believed me, he, my mom and I made an appointment with his cardiologist to ask him about this...During the appointment I pointed out the problems to his Cardiologist (supposedly one of the best in Sarasota, FL) and he fired my father as his patient and made us leave his office.

I soon found him another cardiologist who was a bit more holistic and honest and competent who took him off the contraindicated medications at least.

So, my father's experience was the beginning of my education into some of the problematic aspects of pharmaceutical medication.

I do not take any pharmaceutical medications, even if they have been approved for over the counter sales...

If you have read some of my other pages on this website then you may have come across my story of how I discovered my own HBP and the beginning my discovery of the effectiveness of herbal medicines in controlling Hypertension. Garlic all by itself lowered my blood pressure to normal.

Garlic works for some but not for everyone...some need to make lifestyle changes and take other herbal medications and perhaps even acupuncture.

Because of my father's experience and the experiences of patients I have treated over the years, my interest has only increased in both pharmaceutical drugs, and also herbal medicine.

I am very concerned about not only the potentially debilitating, and sometimes dangerous effects of blood pressure medication and "anti-anxiety" drugs, but in the same often debilitating and sometimes dangerous effects of nearly all pharmaceutical drugs...

Why? Because of all the patients I saw and treated in my 3 years of clinical training to get my degree and what the Doctors supervising there told us.

It was pointed out to us during our clinical training that most of the patients we would see would be on pharmaceutical drugs and we would literally at first be treating them for the side effects of the medications they were taking.

At that time I found that hard to believe.

What were the qualifications of the Doctors making these statements to students in the program? They had an MD degree as well as a degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

As I said, it was hard to believe when I heard it then...but it is no longer hard to believe now, because treating so many more patients have convinced me that it is true.

I have seen adverse side effects many, many times with the people who come to me for treatment. It is very sad.

At the bottom of this page I will tell you about the things you can to all by yourself to lower your blood pressure naturally.

So You Have Been Diagnosed With High Blood Pressure...Now What Can You Do To Improve Your Own Health?

Here are some of the many, many things you can do that are proven to reduce your high blood pressure...if you start with one and that doesn't do it...add another and another until the combined effect of all you are doing does reduce your HBP to the normal range.

Warning: But again...if your blood pressure is very high, persistently so and chronic...don't wait, go immediately to your favorite MD and get on medication to control it now!

    1. Dietary Changes...

    2. Lifestyle:

    • Sleep and rest: If you are not getting enough sleep make time to get more sleep...consider taking naps
    • Walk. If you are physically fit enough, take a 20 minute walk in the morning and evening...or especially if you are angry about something. If you are not strong enough to walk for 20 minutes just do what you can, you could start with shorter walks and build up...just get moving.
    • Learn to meditate...meditation has been long document to reduce and even in many cases normalize blood pressure. There are many styles of meditation...all of them have one thing in common teaching you how to deeply relax your mind and body. Do you think an antidote to "hyper" "tension" could be relaxation...just maybe it could!
    • Do breathing exercises. It is important to breath obviously. You need to include diaphramatic breathing. When you inhale your belly expands and when you exhale you contract your belly. Lie down and place your hands on your belly.

      1. Inhale....When you inhale your stomach should go out. Many people when you ask them to take a deep breath will inhale and pull in their stomach. So you inhale and let your belly extend and let your shoulders roll back...don't hold them rigid and firm...that contracts your lungs. Pull the air into the depth of your lungs which is going to push your belly out.

      2. Exhale...Then let that exhale out pulling it up from the bottom by contracting your belly muscles and diaphragm and letting your shoulders move forward squeezing the air out. This is diaphragmatic breathing and it may hurt at first as you are activating muscles that you wouldn't ordinarily use.

Allow yourself 20 breaths, a breath being both inhale and exhale. You might hyperventilate a bit, you might detox a bit at first...but as you work with it...this needs to become part of your regimen of diet and exercise.

You can imagine doing circular breathing. So often when you breath it is inhale....then exhale...with a space in between. With circular breathing you link the breaths together in a continuous cycle.

Do this at least once per day at any time you like. After a meal is not a good time, but before a meal will work best. Work up to doing this 3 times per day.

What Does Treatment With An Acupuncture Physician or Doctor of Oriental Medicine Entail?

You will likely need to come into the office at least three times a week at first, if you have serious high blood pressure problems. Once treatment begins to work and you see your blood pressure go down we can reduce the frequency of your treatments.

Initially, you might get by with twice weekly treatments if your blood pressure problem is mild to moderate and if it is of recent onset. Treatments generally last an hour or more if we are dealing with the stress issues that often accompany HBP.

Treatment consists of acupuncture and herbal medicine.

How Safe Are Herbs And Herb And Drug Combinations?

I get my herbs and encapsulated herbal formulas from a company called, Evergreen.

According to Dr. John Chen, one of the principles of Evergreen, an herbal specialist who holds dual doctorate degrees in pharmacology (pharmaceutical drugs) and TCM including TCM herbology.

According to Dr. Chen, there are no known adverse reactions between pharmaceutical drugs for HBP and the herbs in Gastrodia Complex and similar custom formulas.

In fact there are not many bad interactions at all between herbs and drugs and those there are are well documented and easily found.

I don't know of any Medical Doctor, Chiropractor, DO, Dentist, or Naturopath who has such qualifications to hold a more valid and scientifically based opinion on the compatibility or impact of Herbs and pharmaceutical drugs...than Dr. Chen with his Doctorate degrees in both Pharmacology and Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine.

In order to make it more clear what I mean by "qualified", let me give you a few metaphors that are easy to understand...

Let's say you have a friend who is a nuclear physicist...wow, he is really brilliant...no doubt about it...

Would you let him perform Dentistry upon you, unless he had a Dental degree and license?

Would you let him or her prescribe pharmaceutical drugs for you unless he was an MD or DO?

Would you let him prescribe herbal medications for you unless he or she had the necessary formal education?

If he or she didn't have training or experience as a mechanic would you let him work on your car, because he is a genius in physics?

So, by the same token if you are getting herbal advice from an MD, Dentist or a DO who has no formal training meaning a degree in herbal medicine is that really smart?

Can you really rely upon his or her knowledge or more importantly lack of knowledge when he tells you that herbs will kill you, or at the least screw up your treatment?

Can you really trust the opinion of a person with no education in Oriental herbal medicine?

Believe me I wouldn't let an MD, Dentist, DO, or Chiropractor or even a nuclear physicist work on my car, or give me herbal advice.

If a person is giving opinions on a subject he or she has no formal education in you take his or her comments with a grain of salt and you need to find a real expert to talk to.

Again, I place my trust in someone who has Doctorate degrees in both Pharmacology and Oriental Herbal Medicine, rather than a person who has training in only drugs, and who has a vested interest in demonizing herbal medicines.

In all my years in practice I have never had one complaint about negative effects from any patients of mine who were taking herbal medicines I prescribed...other than a few minor ones about the taste or a minor upset stomach, remedied by taking the herb or herbs with food or taking them in encapsulated herbs.

Ultimately, the decision about the treatment you choose is yours and yours alone to make. You have the right to choose your treatment, you have the responsibility to determine the facts for your self. Let the results of your research into what patients say about the effects they experienced with their pharmaceutical medications speak for them self.

That is why I have put not only this website together, but this page specifically and I refer you to independent sources of information.
