  • Avoid painful and often debilitating surgery with its very long recovery time...no matter what the surgeon tells you about how quickly you will recover...It take many weeks and even months,
  • Stop taking pain medication and even end your addiction to pain meds. Think more clearly; function better,
  • Get back to doing the things you love including golf or other sports.
  • Finally, how about being able to participate in your family life, and love the life you live without pain?

What Is A Herniated Disk or Bulging Disk?

A herniated disk or disc or bulging disc or disk (depending upon how you spell it. Most English language publications use the spelling "disc" more often than "disk") may or may not cause pain...

The following medical information comes from the medical experts who contributed to Wikipedia on this subject.

"Some of the terms commonly used to describe the condition include herniated disc, prolapsed disc, ruptured disc and the misleading expression slipped disc. Other terms that are closely related include disc protrusion, bulging disc, pinched nerve, sciatica, disc disease, disc degeneration, degenerative disc disease, and black disc.

A spinal disc herniation (prolapsus disci intervertebralis), informally and misleadingly called a "slipped disc", is a medical condition affecting the spine, in which a tear in the outer, fibrous ring (annulus fibrosus) of an intervertebral disc (discus intervertebralis) allows the soft, central portion (nucleus pulposus) to bulge out. Tears are almost always postero-lateral in nature owing to the presence of the posterior longitudinal ligament in the spinal canal.

This tear in the disc ring may result in the release of inflammatory chemical mediators which may directly cause severe pain, even in the absence of nerve root compression (see "chemical radiculitis" below). This is the rationale for the use of anti-inflammatory treatments for pain associated with disc herniation, protrusion, bulge, or disc tear.

It is normally a further development of a previously existing disc protrusion, a condition in which the outermost layers of the annulus fibrosus are still intact, but can bulge when the disc is under pressure."

What Causes The Pain From A Herniated Disc?

How do we know what is causing our pain? The mechanical answer is that the bulging or herniated disc presses on the nerve...

I hear you, but Dr. Eichenauer, how about when my doctor does an x-ray or MRI and it shows a bulging or herniated disc or spinal stenosis or subluxation or nerve impingement? What do I do when he or she tells me this is the cause of my pain or other symptoms.

A lot of people have herniated discs or bulging discs or nerve impingement or spinal stenosis and don't know it because they don't have pain...or any other symptoms for that matter.

The point is one can have back pain with no physically discernable problems or can have physically visible problems and have no pain...

In either case whether there is pain with no visible physical cause or pain with a documented physical cause, acupuncture resolves the problem and heals the pain.

What Is The Prognosis Without Any Treatment?

The following medical information comes from the medical experts who contributed to Wikipedia on this subject.

"The majority of herniated discs will heal themselves in about six weeks and do not require surgery. One study found that "After 12 weeks, 73% of patients showed reasonable to major improvement without surgery. According to Vroomen PC, de Krom MC, Knottnerus JA (Feb 2002). "Predicting the outcome of sciatica at short-term follow-up". Br J Gen Pract 52 (475): 119–23. PMID 11887877.

Conservative Treatment protocols: Non-surgical methods of treatment are usually attempted first, leaving surgery as a last resort. Pain medications are often prescribed as the first attempt to alleviate the acute pain and allow the patient to begin exercising and stretching.

Surgery should only be considered as a last resort after all conservative treatments (non-surgical therapy) have been tried, that did not alleviate the pain and heal the disc herniation."

Clearly if your back does not heal by itself you have to do something to help it heal...

What Do You Recommend As A Safe And Sound Treatment Protocol! Before I Answer That Question Let Me Tell You About My Own Experience With Excruciating Back Pain

Having had severe back pain my self...

I'll never forget the day...I was 47 years old and my back had been feeling a little sore off and on, but nothing really to complain about.

Then one day I was puttering around in my garage and I bent over to pick something up...I picked up the object in my fingers and started to straighten up and couldn't...straighten up because the pain was so severe. It took me 20 minutes to finally stand straight and man did I have pain.

I am here to tell you the best time and place to have your back break down is when you are a student in school studying Traditional Chinese Medicine, also known as Oriental Medicine, which just happens to include Acupuncture!

I thank God my back quit on me when I was in school studying acupuncture...or I don't know what I would have done for several reasons.

  • I didn't have health insurance.
  • I might have ended up addicted to pain-killers. As it was Acupuncture was so effective in handling my pain that I didn't take any pain killers.
  • I might have elected for surgery to "fix" the problem and ended up crippled as so many others have.
  • I didn't have to think about what I was going to do...wasn't it obvious? My fellow students needed me for practice...thank God I wasn't in medical school studying surgery.
  • It healed my back pain gently, and actually pretty quickly

Essentially, it doesn't matter whether you back pain is in your neck or upper back, middle back or lower back...Acupuncture can heal it all.

I Have Treated Patients With Herniated Discs Document By MRI That Were Healed With Acupuncture Documented By Later MRI!Here Is My Recommendation

  • Since the prognosis for most back pain healing on it's own even is good...make sure you make surgery the truly last resort after you try everything, but don't wait until you have been drugged to death or had cortisone injections that eventually won't work.

In my experience with hundreds of patients over the years, if cortisone spinals work now, they will begin to provide less relief for shorter and shorter periods of time until they stop working at all.

  • No matter what diagnosis you receive whether it is low back pain, low back pain with sciatic pain or sciatica, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease or herniated disc or spinal subluxation which the Chiropractors like, Acupuncture will likely heal it.
  • Since what the imaging tests show has no bearing on the outcome of treatment with Acupuncture...why pay for these expensive tests unless you have been in an automobile accident and need them to document the damage the accident did to you.

Here Is A Testimonial I'll Never Forget!:

"I don't care what is wrong with you...see Dr. Eichenauer. He can help you with anything. He helped me with every problem I ever presented him with.

I even had major surgery for a complete bowel obstruction and he got me back to work months faster than the hospital MDs told me was possible.

His herbal formulas worked wonders for me that time as they always do.

When I called him and told him my symptoms that night, Dr. Eichenauer was the one who told me to go straight to the emergency room right away that night when my bowel was obstructed."
